Milan 1976

In 1976, Albini completely restructured his apartment in Milan, furnishing it in high-tech style. In November 1977, the new home was featured in Isa Vercelloni’s photo shoot in Casa Vogue, called “Grigio come libertà” (Grey as freedom).

Murrine

He covered some of his high fashion creations with a multicoloured rain of murrine. For Casa Vogue he did a special on all types of real and fake murrine, painting a background with giant pieces and even decorating the lenses of a pair of glasses and the centre of a long-playing record with it.

Venice

1973 Walter Albini rented a house in Venice, an apartment with roof terrace overlooking the Grand Canal.
In July 1973 Casa Vogue dedicated a feature to it, called “Lo zoo incantato di Walter Albini” (Walter Albini’s enchanted zoo) by Isa Vercelloni.

Showroom

Mirror tiles and mosaics for the Milanese showroom in Via Pietro Cossa, all in shades of white and grey. White walls, grey carpet and grey couches with lace and velvet cushions.
The doors and original boiseries on the ceiling are also painted white and covered in mirrors.

Sidi Bou Said

In 1971, after the success of his last catwalk show, Albini took refuge in Tunisia.
Enchanted by the beauty of the place, he bought a house in Sidi Bou Said.

MILAN, EARLY 1970s

The furnishings are inspired by the 1930s, with furniture hand-made to Walter Albini’s designs, covered with mirrors and mirror tiles, as are the walls.
White linen couches with cushions covered in fabrics from his collections.
At the centre of the living room there is another couch upholstered in plastic python-print material.
In the bedroom as well, there are shelves made of mirrors, while the upholstery and bedspread are in plastic python-print material.
